Even though the original manufacturer of the Old Timer knife is no longer in business, this knife and other Schrade knives are still being made by Taylor Brands who purchased the trademarks and intellectual property rights to each of the Schrade designs as they continue to be in high demand. However, these newer knife versions are manufactured in China whereas the original was made in the USA.

The history of the Old Timer pocket knife goes back to 1904 and, almost since its inception, has been renowned for its quality craftsmanship with the highest quality materials. In addition to pocket knives the Old Timer line also includes fixed and lock blades with a wide variety of edges for common household and outdoor tasks.

These Schrade knives are also among the most collectible of pocket knives with a wide following across multiple age groups. Individual models have been regularly introduced and discontinued over the history of the knife making several models much more valuable than the rest for collectors. Given that no new knives are being produced in the United States, the original Schrade "Made in the USA" models also earn more attention and are more highly prized than the newer imported versions.
